Kids in Badges Community Event

Same Side of the Rope

Each year, HBC’s Kids in Badges event recognizes the public-safety officers who give their time off the clock to mentor justice-involved youth. The day puts the kids and the officers on the same side of the rope — not in a courtroom, not on a traffic stop, but in a gym, on a field, around a meal.

It’s a deliberate inversion of the dynamic many of these kids have only known from one direction. The result, year after year, is relationships that outlast the event itself.
