Youth Boxing Program

After-school boxing, fitness, and mentorship for ages 9–25. Monday through Friday, building discipline and character through the sweet science.

Core Program

The Heart of Highlanders Boxing Club

HBC's youth boxing program is where it all started — and where most young people first walk through the door. Five days a week, youth ages 9 to 25 come to the gym after school for structured training that goes far beyond boxing technique.

Every session is coached, supervised, and intentionally designed to build the social-emotional skills identified by Positive Youth Development research: emotional management, initiative, responsibility, empathy, teamwork, and problem-solving. The ring is the classroom. The coach is the mentor. The discipline of boxing is the vehicle for lasting change.

No experience is needed. Youth arrive at every skill level — from first-timers who've never made a fist to competitive amateur boxers preparing for bouts. Coaches meet each young person where they are and build from there.

What a Session Looks Like

Every training session follows a structured arc — from warm-up to cool-down, each phase builds physical skill and social-emotional development simultaneously.

1

Warm-Up & Conditioning

15–20 min

Jump rope, stretching, bodyweight exercises. Builds cardiovascular fitness and prepares the body for training.

2

Technique & Skill Work

30–40 min

Stance, footwork, jab-cross-hook combinations, defensive moves. Coaches work one-on-one and in small groups, adjusting to each youth's level.

3

Bag Work & Sparring

20–30 min

Heavy bag rounds, pad work with coaches, and supervised sparring for those ready. Builds timing, power, and ring awareness.

4

Cool-Down & Mentorship

10–15 min

Stretching, group discussion, and check-ins. Coaches use this time for goal-setting, conflict resolution, and the relational work that makes HBC more than a gym.

More Than a Gym

Mentoring Programs with Families & Students

Mentorship doesn't stop at the gym door. HBC runs mentoring programs with families and students — group lunches, outings, and the unhurried time that turns a coach into a mentor and a gym into a second home.
